September 2023 wrap-up. Domes and more.

The Domes has now moved into the process of deep edits, and the proofing nazi. I need to say that I’m NOT, pulling my hair out this time. I am not concerned. It gets a little stressful because it is being done in small sections. Proofing during Harvesters was so stressful that I couldn’t find enough bourbon. This time, it’s just a feeling of ‘cool, that is a great idea.’ I’m working on my GenXness. I can make up new words, don’t do this at home however, I am a professional writer on a professional computer!

I’m also realizing that I’ve been writing Spec so much so, that I’ve had trouble writing an expected contraction. She is so damned particular about that.

Small sections it turns out, are easier for edit peeps, but sometimes, I feel like I have no idea where sections begin or end. I’m not sure who has what. I must go back over my emails and files so I don’t send them the same section twice. I have it under control because I’m neurotic, and I’m nervously putting things where they belong. In triplicate. I feel like Santa. I’m making my lists, and checking it twice… or five times.

There is a question about a possible chapter that might need to be written for the Domes. I guess I could ask you:

Do you want a more adult section in this book – The Domes?

Mac and Spec are still inspecting closets, or at least their own room. It’s just slightly more difficult now with her brothers around. Even Spec’s sister, Nadja, thinks that Mac is a pain in the ass. There is so little time; the entirety of The Domes takes place in less than ten Earth days. There is an awful lot happening in those ten days. To me, the question comes down to: it is really gratuitous sex that I would be adding. I’m not opposed mind you, but in Harvesters the sex was necessary to move the plot forward. In this particular book, it would not be the case. So, what do you say? Sex, or just implied Sex for book 2? Because implied boots are already in there. Comment below.

As of today(9/25/23, I write this knowing I’m going away for a week on retreat to write. I don’t have plans to write about sex…well maybe. Inception will have some boots in closets, that will need to be shined. After all, they all have about five years to spend together in the domes as the lawn crew does their job. This retreat will be the start of writing Inception (book 3) of the Spec in Time series!!!!!!!!

That is correct, your eyes do not deceive you. Book three has begun. I can hardly believe it. It seems like I’ve just started on this journey of telling Spec’s story. There is so much left to write. How much will Spec open up about the past? Has Yuri always been a jerk? Will Mac finally meet his father? Will Specs’ prospects of going to prison fade? Will Katlin learn to play Geek Chess? Will I?

The outline is there, it needs to be completed and expanded upon. The ending is solid. The beginning is set up. The notes are in the margins, and I’m ready to rock and roll. It’s so quiet and peaceful here. The cicadas rub their wings together in a relaxing rhythm. All is good. My soul is at peace, my heart is at home in the mountains. Time to write.
