August Blog

“May you live in interesting times.” The curse of my lifetime. If I had a dime for every time someone said ‘your life has been so interesting, you should write a book.’ How about six? Okay, these books are not about my life, they’re Spec’s life. But right now, everyone can say this phrase about the reality of the last month. We are all living in interesting times.

We each travel our own paths, we come to forks, crossroads, and switchbacks which lead to real-life choices. A shift in your path will not only affect you, but it will also change the life paths of many others. We are all connected, not only in our little pods but with the world as a whole. This is more so now due to social media. Think about how much has happen this month, not only in the USA but worldwide. Think about the choices and paths you will pursue in the coming months. Have they changed because of the choices others have made?

It can be a simple thing like my hair now seems to be blue. This is due to advice from a worker who told me the dye was blue/purple. I’m sure there’s some purple in it, but she made the choice of color and I made the choice to accept her counsel. Hair is a renewable resource so it’s really not a big deal, and I may end up liking it in a week. Others are much bigger and far more important like a change in political candidates. I like to stay somewhat neutral in my blogs, but it’s difficult at this point in time. It is pronounced ‘Comma-la’ (,-la). Get it right, that is the least that anyone can do. The shooting of a presidential candidate has also been a turning point in this country. I know, it has happened in the past, but yet – seriously? – we don’t do that! Just be nice.

It seems difficult to ride the many waves that our world and personal lives seem crashing right now. I know personally, I’m terrified by more than one thing and I’m excited by a lot of things. I’m also trying to find my way down the roads that others have created for me to choose from. They have made certain choices and I’m now basing my choices on those.

The part of the story which, I’m writing at this moment, goes into depth about choice. Spec’s lack of choice to complete the main mission was brought about by choices, made by others, to create her. She has made choices about those whom she knew would keep the main mission going forward, and those who would hinder it. Perhaps Spec has/had some choice regarding the deaths she has created along her path, or not. Yet, for her, these choices are totally dependent upon how they will affect the main mission. Is that choice? Could she make a choice that would harm the mission? Does she care about how her choices influence the choices of others? As the story rolls on, perhaps you will create your answers to these questions.

May y’all make wise choices for all of the paths laid out before you.
