September 2025 blog

Last month has been crazy for me, and probably for you’al. Things have been busy both outside and in my head. The old greenhouse is almost revamped and ready for the winter. I hear that it will be cold and snowy. I’ll believe it when I see it. So far, it has been one of the nicest springs this year in a long time, not too hot a summer, and now it seems we might go into a great fall. I hope that I didn’t just jinx that. The temps, the breeze, even my allergies haven’t been too bad, open windows, cool nights. Thus far, we can add no hurricanes.

Books three, four, and five, too, have had some new notes and inputs of chapters inserted into them. The big thing this month has been getting ready for a writer’s workshop and a writing retreat. It has been a long time since I have had time away in the mountains to just sit and write. I need that more than I can say.

The sounds of fall are upon us here, like pressure washers, tree removal, and road work. People seem to be slowing down a bit overall. I hope that continues into winter, although it is always fun to watch people try to drive up our hill in winter. Just because you have four-wheel drive doesn’t mean you should try to use it if you don’t know how.

I have completed the project of setting up my writing office. It was a larger project than I expected. Everything takes more time than you have imagined. My large sheets of paper with timelines and outlines now cover the walls. It’s a good thing; I will be able to ignore the fact that that room really needs painting. The standing desk is now standing, and the windows have curtains so that I can block out some sun. The ‘editing’ computer is all attached and working except, who knows why, the printer. Some driver must be updated, I would guess. I’ll find it later. I found some speakers, now I can pump up the jam when I need a mind-clearing. I guess this is the week I calm down from all the stress. SB: Nope, there was a tree that had to come out of the driveway, no rest for the weary. This is why the blog is late.

My Patreon peeps will get to read the last part of my little novella: Sitting Room. If you wish, you can always go to Amazon and read Sitting Room, too. Some day, when I’m done with Spec, I might clean up ‘Sitting Room’ and turn it into something bigger. Of course, maybe I’ll be dead and not care. Perhaps I should write a series on death and not caring, but then, Lance pretty much takes care of my feelings on the subject in The Harvesters. Have I mentioned how difficult it is to kill off a character? On that note, do you have any suggestions about what I should write next in this series of blog updates? Let me know either privately or in the comments. I’d love to hear from you. If you have just found me. The first two books of The Spec in Time are available on Amazon. Book three is coming in 2026.
