The Domes update – April

It’s done.

April fools.

The Domes – the second book of the Spec in Time series – is actually more done than I thought it would be at this point. All of that aforementioned puke of ideas and possible dialog is done. What is amazing is that I already have around 80% of that word puke smoothed out and ready for the tweaking/crafting stage. Even more amazing is that some parts are ready for the fine-tuning stage. With this much written, and then including editing, this puts me at around 50% done. I feel as if I am really ahead of my own personal schedule as the hard stuff is done.

This is the one thing I dislike about this stage: I can no longer jump around. Top to bottom babe. I jump all over the place in the beginning. It is chaotic writing. A section pops into my head – I go write it down. The next inspiration may be for a part that is a hundred pages away. I like that, I guess I am comfortable in chaos to some extent. I love the freedom of thinking over something for days and then finally having that Oh this is how it goes moment. That will trigger some parts earlier in the story or later in the story. Later is always an issue, does it go into this book or one of the next? It has to be written anyways so book 4 is opened, and the spark is added in.

Now it is all about flow, and consistency (if it doesn’t have consistency, make it so). What was that word? What color was the table? Does this room have a name? Where is that list of ship names, which one did I use last? How many times have I used that word??? It is the details that need to be filled in. But I swear I will not spend 2 weeks this time adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing numbers, just to get to the #4. The math is done in this book…I hope. If not, I promise to trust my calculator this time.

I have had a great month of time, creativity, and an ability to focus. Now it is time to not get bogged down in minutiae (save that for accepting edits) but to float with it. Expand it and make it bleed into the story seamlessly. It is the details that are not trivial, but very important. The forecasters, the herrings, the reminders.

I need new glasses, oh wait, and tea too! Did you know you could help me stay in tea by going here: https://ko-fi.com/mnarf  If you need your copy of book one go here: The Harvesters That’s it for shameless promotion today.
